AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS NEED TO APPLY !

Scholarships Going to Waste

Please Share: AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS ARE NOT APPLYING !

Even if you do not have a college-aged child at home, please share this with someone who does, pass this scholarship information on to anyone and ...everyone that comes to mind. Though there are a number of companies and organizations that have donated monies for scholarships use to African Americans, a great deal of the money is being returned because of a lack of interest.
No one is going to knock on our doors and ask if we can use a scholarship. Take the initiative to get your children involved. There is no need for money to be returned to donating companies because we fail to apply for it. Please pass this information on to family members, nieces, nephews, friends with children etc. We must get the word out that money is available. If you are a college student or getting ready to become one , you probably already know how useful additional money can be. Our youth really could use these scholarships. Thanks! SCAT: Free enrichment program for rising 6th grade girls for game design.

Hello, everyone!

SCAT is a free enrichment program designed to expose rising 6th grade girls
to game design.  The program spans 3 years, and participants will be able
to develop their algorithmic thinking and problem solving skills as they
design more and more complex games.  As such, participants will
participate through
their 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years.

The SCAT program consists of three different activities:
1. A 2-week hands on game design summer camp (to be held July 1 - 12, 2013);
2. Three 6-week intensive game design workshops where SCAT Scholars will
refine and implement their games to prepare them for submission to three
different national game design competitions; and
3. Three field trips in the metro-Atlanta area where SCAT Scholars can see
algorithms in action

The workshops and field trips will take place throughout the school year.

SCAT Scholars will receive $500 for each year they participate in the three
year program.  Participation is limited to 26 girls.  Priority will be
given to African-American applicants.

The application period is currently open and will remain so until June 7,
2013.  You can find out more information about the SCAT Program and apply
online at:

Camp Congress is a week-long summer camp that introduces girls ages 7 to 14 to politics.

http://campcongressatlanta.eventbrite.com/

Camp Congress is a week-long summer camp that introduces girls ages 7 to 14 to politics. Camp begins with a girl-friendly lesson on the structure of our political system. Each girl will choose to run for a seat in the US House of Representatives, US Senate or for the presidency. She will create her own campaign with a campaign platform, campaign slogan, campaign button, a campaign banner and a yard sign. Each camper will film a political ad for her campaign. All campers will register to vote then vote in an election. Once elected to the Congress, the newly installed members of Congress will learn how to introduce a bill, debate the merits of the bill, lobby other members of Congress and finally vote on the bill. Camp will culminate with a ceremonial signing of the bill by our Ms. President. Throughout the camp week women serving as our local and state elected officials will join us to work with the girls as "honorary camp counselors" giving the campers the opportunity to interact with women in office.

The camp day runs from 9am to 5pm. The camp fee includes a Camp Congress t-shirt, two snacks and all supplies for camp activities. Campers are to bring a lunch daily and wear comfortable clothing. Space is limited; early registration is encouraged. Camp tuition is $400 for the week.

Due to limited space and high demand no refunds will be given for camp registration fees. Campers should be rising 1st graders to attend Camp Congress. Upon completing payment, you will receive an email from our organization with camp registrations forms for you to complete and return to us.

For additional information contact Kimberly Mitchem-Rasmussen, Director/Founder at 404-797-8650 or via email at kimberly@politicalinstituteforwomen.org.

Camp Congress is an initiative created and hosted by the Political Institute for Women.
