Very good article on and about the use of Social Media.
"It should be clear by now that social media are not a passing trend. For many adults and even more young people, social media are an integral part of life -- so they must become an integral part of education."

Free software - Phrogram for programming

http://phrogram.com/content/whatisphrogram.aspx

If you want to make games or software programs for your Windows PC, you may try to start with Java, C++, or Visual Basic - but their "syntax" (how commands are written) can be very challenging. You will also need to use a complex "development environment" like Visual Studio or Eclipse - great for big projects, but not for getting started.

There are also products like Alice and Scratch that are great if you want your program to tell a story or show animation, but they won't really convey how programmers write, test and debug software code - and that's what makes Phrogram different.

With Phrogram, you can learn the experience of programming using a development environment that is similar to what working programmers use to write, test and debug their software programs.
Phrogram does not try to "hide" the source code or over-simplify programming concepts by basing them on visual, "drag-and-drop" techniques. It's built on the principle that it's better to get acquainted with source code right away, because learning how to read and write it is not as hard as it may look, and if you give it a try, you will learn faster, and gain real skills that you can put to use in creating games and other fun programs.
Phrogram's programming language is concise and the tools are easy to master, so you won't need to absorb vast amounts of information to learn how to use it. There are also dozens of built-in sample programs and hundreds of user-uploaded examples on our website. And because Phrogram is built on Microsoft's powerful .NET Framework, your programs can do much more with much less code.

Phrogram's development environment is designed for learning and teaching. Don't worry about managing many of the complex tasks that make programming seem hard - with Phrogram, you will learn the skills and techniques that working programmers apply all the time.

So start writing your own code in a powerful yet straightforward way, and create programs in both 2D and 3D environments. It's easy to learn powerful programming concepts - even networking, databases, precision math, file input/output and many other extensions - with Phrogram!

About Scratch

Scratch is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art -- and share your creations on the web.
As young people create and share Scratch projects, they learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.
